Fungi Identification

We are experts in identifying both macroscopic fungi (i.e., mushrooms and puffballs) and microscopic fungi (i.e., molds and yeasts) to species level. Detailed visual inspection of physical characteristics, habitat, ecology and microscope slide preparations of the fungus are typically required to make a correct identification. Depending on the species and nature of the request, the identification may require validation by other protocols such as culture plate analyses on specific fungal growing media; or molecular methods such as PCR (i.e., polymerase chain reaction) only if the fungus has previously been genetically characterized.
Whether you are medical doctor who is taking care of a child that has just become sick from eating a mushroom growing near their sandbox outside, or are an office manager that has had a complaint from an employee about potential mold problem in their area, call us. We can help and tell you whether the mushroom is fatally poisonous or not; or if the suspect mold is causing a problem as it pertains to the indoor environment quality. In either of these two or other situations, the fungal specimens will have to identified by us in person (i.e., we can’t identify fungi over the phone).
